The Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu is renowned for its tea plantations and factories. One of the prominent tea factories in the region is the TANTEA (Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation Limited), which is one of the largest black tea producers in India. The factory processes high-quality clonal tea plantations spread over nearly 4053.758 hectares in the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts.
TANTEA produces about 12 million kg of tea annually, with 80% being CTC (Crush, Tear, Curl) tea and the remaining being Orthodox tea.
Another notable entity is INDCOSERVE, India's largest tea co-operative federation, which works with around 30,000 small tea growers and operates 16 tea factories in the Nilgiris. INDCOSERVE produces about 13 million kg of tea annually and offers a variety of tea products, including Mountain Rose Tea, BlueMont Tea, and Ooty Tea.
