Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, located near Thattekad in Ernakulam district, Kerala, is also known as the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, named after the famous ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. Spanning around 25 square kilometers along the Periyar River, the sanctuary is part of the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot, rich in tropical evergreen forests and home to more than 300 species of birds.
