The bridge was constructed using stone masonry and steel girders, featuring 56 spans, each 45.7 meters (150 feet) long, with a total length of 3,480 meters (11,420 feet). It served as a vital railway link between Howrah and Madras for nearly a century before being decommissioned in 1997.
