The Ukai Dam, also known as Vallabh Sagar, is a significant multi-purpose dam located across the Tapti River in the Tapi district of Gujarat. Constructed between 1964 and 1972, it is the second largest reservoir in Gujarat after the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
The dam serves several purposes, including irrigation, power generation, and flood control. The Ukai Dam is quite impressive with a height of 105.156 meters and a length of 4,927 meters. It has a catchment area of 62,225 square kilometers and a water spread of 52,000 hectares. The dam has an installed capacity of 300 MW, with four hydro turbine units of 75 MW each.
The reservoir, known as Vallabhsagar, has a gross storage capacity of 7,414 million cubic meters and an active capacity of 6,730 million cubic meters. The left bank canal of the dam irrigates an area of 1,522 square kilometers, while the right bank canal irrigates 2,275 square kilometers.
