Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur

Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, was built between 1928 and 1943 under the patronage of Maharaja Umaid Singh as a relief project to provide employment during a severe famine. Designed by British architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester, the palace is an impressive blend of traditional Rajput and Art Deco architectural styles.

Constructed with golden-yellow sandstone and Makrana marble, it features 347 rooms, sprawling gardens, and intricate carvings combined with sleek Art Deco interiors including murals and luxurious furnishings. The palace serves as a royal residence partly occupied by Maharaja Gaj Singh II and his family, while another part operates as a luxury hotel managed by Taj Hotels.

It also houses a museum showcasing royal artifacts, vintage cars, and historical memorabilia. Situated on the highest point in Jodhpur, Chittar Hill, Umaid Bhawan Palace stands as one of the largest private residences in the world, symbolizing the city's royal heritage, resilience in hardship, and transition to modernity.
