Vallarpadam Basilica
The National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom, commonly known as Vallarpadam Basilica, is a significant and historic church situated on Vallarpadam Island, Ernakulam, Kerala. This basilica is popularly referred to as the "Lourdes of Kerala" due to its reputation as a center of pilgrimage and miracles.
Managed by the Archdiocese of Verapoly, the church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, lovingly known as Vallarpadathamma.
The basilica's history dates back to the 16th century when it was initially built by the Portuguese missionaries. The current structure, rebuilt after a devastating flood in 1676, features a striking blend of Indo-European architectural styles. The basilica also houses a miraculous oil lamp that has been burning continuously since its installation by Paliyath Raman Valiyachan.
