Viceregal Lodge and Botanical Gardens, also known as Rashtrapati Niwas, is a majestic and historically significant structure located on Observatory Hill in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Built in 1888 during the tenure of the British Viceroy Lord Dufferin, it was originally the residence of the British Viceroy of India. This architectural masterpiece is a six-story building designed in the Jacobethan style by the British architect Henry Irwin.
The Botanical Gardens surrounding the lodge are equally mesmerizing, featuring well-maintained lawns, beautiful pine trees, and a variety of rose plants. After India gained independence, the building was handed over to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study in 1965 and now serves as a research center.
