Victory War Memorial
The Victory War Memorial, also known as Cupid's Bow, is a significant historical monument in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Originally constructed to commemorate the victory of the Allied Armies during World War I (1914-1918), it was later expanded to honor those who served in World War II (1939-1945) and other conflicts such as the 1948 Kashmir Aggression, the 1962 War with China, and the Indo-Pakistan War.
The memorial is located in a roundabout to the south of Fort St. George and marks the beginning of the 13-km-long Marina Beach. The main structure is an obelisk made of marble, with inscriptions in four languages: Telugu, English, Hindi, and Tamil. The inscriptions honor the soldiers from the Madras Presidency who lost their lives in these wars.
