Warangal Fort
Warangal Fort, located in Warangal, Telangana, is a historic fort built in the 13th century by King Ganapatideva of the Kakatiya dynasty.
It was later expanded by Rani Rudrama Devi and Prataparudra II. The fort is known for its four massive stone gateways, called Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, which originally formed the entrances to a now-ruined Shiva temple. These iconic arches have been incorporated into the official emblem of Telangana.
The fort was strategically designed with three layers of fortification, ensuring strong defense against invasions. It witnessed several battles, including attacks by Malik Kafur, the general of Alauddin Khilji, in 1309.
Though much of the fort is in ruins today, its intricate carvings, sculptures, and stonework still showcase the architectural brilliance of the Kakatiya era.
