Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, in the southern part of the famous Western Ghats, was established in 1973. As Kerala's second largest sanctuary with an area of 344 square kilometers, it plays a crucial role in conservation and eco-tourism. The sanctuary forms part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and is surrounded by protected areas like Nagarhole and Mudumalai National Parks.
