Zafar Khan Ghazi Mosque And Dargah
The Zafar Khan Ghazi Mosque and Dargah is a significant historical site located in Tribeni, Hooghly, West Bengal. It is considered one of the earliest surviving Muslim monuments in Bengal, dating back to 1298 AD. The mosque was built by Zafar Khan Ghazi, a general of Sultan Feroz Shah of Delhi, who played a key role in establishing Muslim rule in Bengal.
The mosque is an oblong structure with five arched entrances on the east wall and ten domes on the roof. The stones used in the construction were originally taken from Hindu temples, and some of the carvings of Hindu deities can still be seen on the stones.
The interior of the mosque features longitudinal aisles and stone pillars, creating ten equal compartments. The mosque follows the Bengali style, with a prayer chamber without a court, riwaq, or minaret.
