India Issues Fresh Advisory Urging Citizens to Leave Iran Amid Rising Tensions

India has issued a fresh and urgent advisory asking its nationals to leave Iran as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate. The warning reflects growing concerns about safety amid uncertainty surrounding diplomatic negotiations and ongoing unrest in the region.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran has advised all Indian citizens including students, pilgrims, business travellers, and tourists to leave Iran using available commercial flights and other transport options. Officials stressed that the advisory is a continuation of earlier warnings issued in January 2026, highlighting the rapidly evolving situation. 

Authorities also urged Indians still in the country to remain cautious, avoid protests or demonstrations, and stay in regular contact with embassy officials. Citizens have been asked to keep essential documents such as passports and identification ready at all times in case of emergencies. 

To support those needing assistance, the embassy has released emergency helpline numbers and an official email contact for immediate help.

The advisory comes amid continued student protests in Iran and growing tensions between Tehran and Washington. Diplomatic negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme remain ongoing, with another round of talks expected to take place in Geneva later this week. 

Reports indicate that global leaders have issued strong warnings regarding the outcome of the talks, raising fears that failure to reach an agreement could further destabilise the region.

Safety Measures for Indian Nationals

Indian authorities have emphasised that those who cannot immediately leave Iran should maintain heightened vigilance. Key safety recommendations include:

• Avoiding crowded or politically sensitive areas
• Keeping communication lines open with embassy officials
• Ensuring travel and immigration documents are easily accessible

These measures aim to minimise risk as the situation continues to evolve.

The advisory underscores New Delhi’s proactive approach to protecting its citizens overseas during international crises. The government has reiterated that it is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and will continue issuing updates as necessary.
