Hoshiarpur is a city in the Indian state of Punjab, located about 140 kilometers northeast of the state capital of Chandigarh. It is one of the oldest cities in Punjab and is known for its rich cultural heritage, historical monuments, and religious diversity.

The city was a major center of the Indus Valley Civilization, and numerous archaeological sites have been discovered in and around the city. Later, Hoshiarpur became a part of the Mauryan Empire, followed by the Gupta Empire, and eventually the Mughal Empire.

 During the 18th and 19th centuries, Hoshiarpur was ruled by the Sikh empire, and the city played a significant role in the struggle for Indian independence. The city was also a major center of the Indian National Congress during the freedom struggle.
