Jind has a rich historical significance and is believed to have been ruled by various dynasties like the Mauryas, Guptas, and the Tughlaqs. It was also a part of the Sikh Empire under Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The district gets its name from Jaintapuri, an ancient pilgrimage site located in the area.
