Purba Medinipur, also known as East Medinipur, is a district located in the state of West Bengal, India. It is situated in the southern part of the state and is bordered by the Bay of Bengal to the south. The district headquarters is located in Tamluk, which is also the largest town in the district.

Purba Medinipur has a rich historical and cultural heritage. It was part of the ancient kingdoms of Magadha, Maurya, and Gupta before coming under the rule of the Bengal Sultanate and later the Mughals.
