Rupnagar, also known as Ropar, is a city in the Indian state of Punjab. It is situated on the banks of the Sutlej river and is the administrative headquarters of the Rupnagar district. The city is approximately 50 km from Chandigarh and 100 km from Ludhiana.
Rupnagar has a rich history dating back to the Harappan civilization. The city was ruled by various dynasties including the Mauryas, Guptas, and Mughals. In the 18th century, it came under the control of the Sikhs who established their rule in Punjab. During the British Raj, Rupnagar was an important center of trade and commerce.
