It is situated in the Malwa region and is bordered by the districts of Ludhiana and Fatehgarh Sahib to the north, Patiala to the east, Barnala to the west, and Jind and Kaithal districts of Haryana to the south. The district covers an area of 3,624 square kilometers and has a population of over 16 lakh people as per the 2011 Census. The main languages spoken here are Punjabi, Hindi, and English.
