Located along the Indus River and the Srinagar-Leh Highway, Sham District is dotted with picturesque villages and historic monasteries that offer a glimpse into the region's vibrant past and present.

The Likir Monastery, one of the oldest and best-preserved monasteries in Ladakh, is a highlight of Sham District. Known for its imposing statue of Buddha and serene atmosphere, it provides a peaceful retreat for visitors. Another significant site is the Alchi Monastery, famous for its exquisite murals and ancient architecture, offering a unique blend of artistic and spiritual experiences.
