West Godavari is one of the 13 districts in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Located on the southeastern coast of the country, it is situated in the region known as Coastal Andhra. West Godavari district is named after the Godavari River, which flows through it. The administrative headquarters of the district is in the town of Eluru.
West Godavari has a rich history and cultural heritage. It was part of the ancient Kalinga Empire and has witnessed the rule of various dynasties, including the Satavahanas, Ikshvakus, Chalukyas, and Kakatiyas. The district also played a significant role during the British colonial period.
