Zanskar is a remote and stunningly beautiful valley located in the Kargil district of the Union Territory of Ladakh, India. Known for its rugged landscapes, high-altitude peaks, and pristine environment, Zanskar is a paradise for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers.
The administrative center of Zanskar is Padum, which is situated at an elevation of 3,669 meters (11,947 feet). The valley is surrounded by the majestic Zanskar Range, which rises to an altitude of 19,700 feet (5,994 meters).
The region is famous for its challenging treks, including the renowned Chadar Trek, which involves walking on the frozen Zanskar River during winter. Zanskar is also known for its rich cultural heritage, with a majority of the population practicing Buddhism.
The valley is home to several ancient monasteries, including the Phugtal Monastery, which is one of the oldest and most revered monasteries in the region.
