Adoni Fort

Adoni Fort, located in the town of Adoni in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, is one of the largest forts in India with fortification walls stretching over 50 kilometers. Built mainly in the 15th century during the Vijayanagara Empire, the fort served as a key military base and later came under the control of the Bijapur Sultanate, Mughal Empire, Hyderabad Nizams, and briefly Tipu Sultan before British rule.

The fort is spread over seven large granite hills and comprises 12 sub-forts built across centuries. Inside, notable structures include Nawab Darbar Hall, Jamia Masjid, Venu Gopala Temple, Malik Rahman Dargah, Shiva Temple, Amba Bhavani Temple, and several water bodies. Adoni Fort features a unique blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles, with famous elements like intricately designed gates, halls with decorated ceilings, and large pillars.

The fort also has historical significance with legends of secret tunnels linking to other forts. Despite some ruins, it remains an important heritage site reflecting the region's varied cultural and political history.
