Ajmer Fort
Ajmer Fort is often associated with Taragarh Fort, a historic fortress located in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Built upon a steep hillside, it was originally known as Ajaymeru Durg and was constructed by the Parmar Rajputs, later repaired by Ajayaraja Chauhan.
The fort played a significant role in Rajput history, witnessing battles and strategic military importance over centuries. The fort features three gateways—Lakshmi Pol, Phuta Darwaza, and Gagudi ki Phatak—though much of these structures are now in ruins.
One of its most notable bastions is the Bhim Burj, which once housed a massive cannon called Garbh Gunjam, meaning "Thunder from the Womb". The fort also contains water reservoirs and a shrine dedicated to Miran Saheb, who lost his life in battle in 1202 CE.
