All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Guwahati (AIIMS-Guwahati), located in Kamrup Metropolitan, Assam, is a premier public autonomous medical institute established in 2017 under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, serving as an Institute of National Importance.
Its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26, 2017, with the permanent 189-acre campus in Changsari operational since March 2022 and formally inaugurated on April 14, 2023, featuring a 750-bed hospital, trauma center, 25+ specialty and super-specialty departments, OPD/emergency services, 16 operation theaters, AYUSH facilities, and modern academic blocks.
It offers MBBS with 125 annual seats via INI-CET, B.Sc. Nursing (75 seats), postgraduate programs, and research in medical sciences from its initial temporary site at Gauhati Medical College's Narakasur Hilltop, mentored by AIIMS Bhubaneswar, while ranking 48th in IIRF Medical 2025 and addressing Northeast India's healthcare needs.
