Alorna Fort, also known as Halarn Fort or Fort Santa Cruz de Alorna, is one of the oldest and most historically significant forts in North Goa. Built in the 17th century by the Bhonsles of Sawantwadi, it was strategically positioned along the banks of the Chapora River to defend against Maratha invasions. Later, in the 18th century, the Portuguese captured and fortified it further, recognizing its military value.
The fort features four bastions, thick laterite stone walls, and remnants of cannon stations, with only two still visible today. Though much of the structure lies in ruins, the site offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and river, making it a peaceful and scenic destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
