Aram Bagh
Aram Bagh, also known as Ram Bagh, is the oldest Mughal garden in India, located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Built in 1526 by Emperor Babur, the first Mughal emperor, the garden was originally named "Bagh-i-Gul Afshan," meaning "The Flower-Scatterer Garden."
It was later renamed Aram Bagh, translating to "Garden of Rest," as it served as a temporary resting place for Babur's remains before they were moved to Kabul.
The garden is designed in the Persian charbagh style, symbolizing paradise with its symmetrical layout, water channels, and pathways. It features three terraces with cascading water, fountains, and pavilions, creating a serene and refreshing environment.
The garden also includes a subterranean tahkhana (cool chamber) used during summers.
