Awagrah Fort, located in the town of Awagarh in Etah district, Uttar Pradesh, is a historic fortress built in the 12th century by the Jadon rulers of the Kshatriya clan after migrating from Karauli. The fort covers around 108 acres and is situated on a small mound surrounded by a large moat, offering a scenic and tranquil setting among lush green fields. It has been a symbol of royal heritage with architectural features including high walls, bastions, a moat, a palace, a mosque, and several temples inside.
The fort played an important role in regional history and was involved in battles with the Mughals and British but was never captured. Raja Balwant Singh Ji of Awagarh made significant contributions to education by founding a college in Agra and supporting Rabindranath Tagore's establishment of Shantiniketan.
