Bandh Baretha Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 50 kilometers south of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, is a historic protected area originally established as a royal hunting ground by the Maharajas of Bharatpur. Centered around the Baretha Dam on the Kakund River, the sanctuary spans over 368 square kilometers following its expansion in 2021.
It features a diverse landscape of wetlands, forests, and rocky terrain supporting rich biodiversity, including over 200 species of resident and migratory birds like painted storks and black-necked storks. The sanctuary is home to mammals such as leopards, hyenas, jackals, chital, nilgai, wild boars, and cheetahs.
With attractions like the Basant Darbar Mahal palace and opportunities for jeep safaris and birdwatching, Bandh Baretha offers a peaceful natural retreat rich in wildlife and historical heritage.
