Bapu Museum
The Bapu Museum, located in Krishna, Andhra Pradesh, is a treasure trove of history and culture. Originally known as the Victoria Jubilee Museum, it was established in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. The museum was later renamed in honor of the renowned film director, illustrator, cartoonist, and author Bapu.
Managed by the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Andhra Pradesh, the museum boasts a vast collection of sculptures, paintings, and artifacts dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries. The Indo-European architectural style of the building adds to its historical charm.
Visitors can explore galleries showcasing stone-cut writings, coins, swords, body armor, and other relics used by ancient kings. The museum also features a standing Buddha made of white limestone from Alluru and depictions of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga slaying the buffalo demon Mahishasura.
The Bapu Museum is not just a repository of artifacts but a window into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
