Bharatgad Fort is a historical fort located about 18 kilometers from Malvan in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. Situated on the southern bank of the Gad River or Kalaval Creek, the fort covers an area of approximately 4-5 acres and is surrounded by a lush mango orchard.
The fort was initially planned by Shivaji Maharaj in 1670, but due to water scarcity, the project was abandoned. Later, in 1680, the Wadikar Phonda Sawant decided to build the fort, which was completed in 1701.
The fort features impressive defensive structures, including 9 bastions and a 20-feet wide and 10-feet deep moat. Inside the fort, there is a well, a gunpowder storeroom, a grain store room, and a Mahapurush temple.
