Bhindawas Lake
Bhindawas Lake in Jhajjar, Haryana, is a man-made freshwater wetland and the largest wetland in the state, covering about 412 hectares. Established originally to store excess water from the Jawaharlal Nehru canal, it was declared a bird sanctuary in 2009 and is recognized as a Ramsar site.
The sanctuary attracts over 250 species of birds, including many migratory species like pelicans, cormorants, and cranes, as well as globally threatened species such as the Egyptian vulture and Pallas’s fish eagle. The surrounding area also supports various mammals like nilgai, blackbuck, and common mongoose.
Bhindawas plays an important ecological role in groundwater recharge and acts as a natural flood buffer. It is a popular spot for birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts, and nature lovers, with facilities like watchtowers and walking trails that provide excellent viewing opportunities throughout the year, especially in winter when migratory birds are most abundant.
