According to the Mahabharata, this is the place where Bhishma Pitamah lay on a bed of arrows during the great battle of Kurukshetra and observed the war. When Bhishma was thirsty and requested water, Arjuna shot an arrow into the ground, causing a water spring to emerge, believed to be from the Ganges. This water body is now known as Bhishma Kund.
