Chandavaram Buddhist Site
Chandavaram Buddhist Site in Prakasam, Andhra Pradesh, is an ancient Buddhist excavation site dating back to the 2nd century BCE to the 2nd century CE. It was built during the Satavahana dynasty and discovered in 1964 by archaeologist Veluri Venkata Krishna Sastry.
The site is located on the bank of the Gundlakamma River, about 10 km northwest of Donakonda railway station. It features a double-terraced MahaStupa on Singarakonda Hill, which is considered second in importance only to the Sanchi Stupa. The sculptural panels at the site belong to the Amaravati school of art, and many of them are now housed in the Telangana State Archaeology Museum in Hyderabad.
