Chandia Fort
Chandia Fort, located in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, was historically the seat of the Baghel Rajput estate under the Rewa State. The estate, granted in the 16th century to Kunwar Mangad Rai who earned the title Lal Saheb, covered 454 square miles and included 84 villages.
The fort, built by Lal Chatradharl Singh, served as the administrative and ruling center of the illakedar (estate holder) Chandia. The estate holder had rights to tax collection for the Maharaja of Rewa and was obligated to attend the Maharaja's court and services. Chandia was a significant local power, and the fort remains a historical monument in the town, which also hosts temples including one for Goddess Kalika.
The fort and its surroundings reflect the area's Rajput heritage and its role in the regional governance system during the pre-independence era.
