Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Thrissur district of Kerala, covers about 85 square kilometers along the western slopes of the Nelliyampathy Hills. Established in 1984, it is part of the biodiversity-rich Western Ghats and features moist deciduous, tropical evergreen, and semi-evergreen forests. The sanctuary is home to diverse wildlife including tigers, Asian elephants, Nilgiri langurs, Indian giant squirrels, and slender lorises.
It also supports around 192 bird species and over 100 butterfly species, including the largest butterfly in India, the Southern Birdwing, and the world's largest moth, the Atlas Moth.
