Chimnabai Lake
Chimnabai Lake, also known as Chimnabai Sarovar, is an artificial lake located near Kadarpur village in Kheralu Taluka, Mehsana district, Gujarat. It was constructed by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda State between 1898 and 1905 in memory of his late wife, Maharani Chimnabai I.
The lake covers an area of about 1,600 acres and has a water storage capacity of 632 million cubic feet. It plays a vital role in providing irrigation to approximately 900 hectares (2,200 acres) of agricultural land across ten nearby villages. The lake is not only an engineering marvel of its time but also a crucial resource for local farming communities, with ongoing demands for more reliable water supply from sources like the Narmada canal or Dharoi dam.
