Cinque Islands Wildlife Sanctuary

Cinque Islands Wildlife Sanctuary, located in South Andaman, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is part of the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. The sanctuary covers around 9.5 square kilometers and includes North and South Cinque Islands connected by a sandbar.

Known for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs, it harbors rich marine biodiversity such as colorful corals, fish species, sea turtles, rays, reef sharks, and tropical marine life. The islands feature pristine white sandy beaches, dense tropical wet evergreen forests, and mangroves.

It is a significant protected area for both terrestrial and marine ecosystems, attracting visitors for snorkeling, scuba diving, and wildlife observation while maintaining strict environmental protection measures. The sanctuary was officially established in 1987 to conserve its unique marine and island habitats. Access to the islands is primarily by boat from Port Blair, and visitor numbers are regulated to preserve the natural environment.

The area also includes a lighthouse and remains largely uninhabited, providing refuge to diverse avian species and a rich underwater world. The sanctuary's calm and clear waters make it a premier destination for eco-tourism and marine enthusiasts.
