Dalmau Fort
Dalmau is a historic town located in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh, situated on the banks of the Ganga River. The town is known for its ancient fort, which rests on a large artificial mound believed to be built on the remains of two old Buddhist stupas. This fort, now largely in ruins, was reconstructed by Ibrahim Shah Sharqi in the early 15th century after conquering the Bhar rulers.
Dalmau has significant historical value, featuring monuments like the Ebrahim Sharki palace, several dargahs, mosques, and temples. It was also an important center of Sufism in the 14th century and holds literary significance as the place where poet Suryakant Tripathi "Nirala" composed his works while overlooking the town from the fort.
The town’s unique geography on a steep bluff protects it from flooding, and it has a rich cultural heritage intertwined with history, religion, and literature.
