The Eastern Ganga Canal is a major irrigation project in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at providing water to the agricultural lands of Bijnor and Moradabad districts. The canal originates from the Bhimgoda Barrage on the Ganga River near Haridwar and extends through various districts, including Bijnor.
The main canal is 48.55 kilometers long with a capacity of 4650 cusecs. The project was completed under the XI-Plan with an approved cost of Rs. 903.15 crores.
The canal system benefits around 105 thousand hectares of agricultural land, significantly aiding in the irrigation of crops. However, there have been delays in the construction of some branches, affecting farmers in the region. The project has been ongoing since the 1980s, and efforts are being made to resolve the issues and complete the remaining branches.
