Gandhi Ghat
Gandhi Ghat is a historic site located in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. It was the first memorial built in honor of Mahatma Gandhi, inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on January 15, 1949.
Designed by architect Habib Rahman, the memorial symbolizes the three main religions of India—Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam. Adjacent to the ghat is Jawahar Kunj, a beautifully maintained garden featuring 120 varieties of roses, lush greenery, and a serene riverfront.
The site is particularly significant on January 26, August 15, and October 2, when the Governor of West Bengal hoists the national flag here.
