Gangaram Cheruvu

Gangaram Cheruvu, also called Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu, is a lake situated in Chandanagar, Serilingampally mandal, within Ranga Reddy district, Telangana. Traditionally, it has been used for agricultural irrigation and fishing purposes. Over time, the lake and its surrounding area have faced serious challenges, including illegal encroachments and dumping of construction debris, which threaten its ecological health and water retention capacity.

Authorities and local activists have reported multiple complaints about encroachment on the lakebed, and efforts are ongoing to protect and restore it. Government agencies, including the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and local police, have taken steps like filing cases against encroachers and seizing vehicles involved in illegal dumping to safeguard the lake.

The Telangana High Court has also shown concern over the conservation of lakes in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, underscoring the importance of preserving such water bodies for future generations. Despite these efforts, Gangaram Cheruvu continues to require focused attention to prevent further degradation and maintain its role in the local ecosystem and community.
