The Gauri Shankar Mandir is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, located in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. The temple is over 800 years old and is one of the most significant temples of Shaivism in Delhi. The temple features a unique brown Lingam (phallus stone) encased in a marble structure, surrounded by silver snakes representing a cosmic pillar, the center of the universe or life.
The temple was built by Apa Ganga Dhar, a Maratha soldier who vowed to construct it if he survived a severe battle injury. The temple was later renovated by Seth Jaipura in 1959. Inside the temple, you can find idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and their sons, Lord Ganesh and Lord Kartik, all adorned with real gold jewelry. The temple courtyard is always bustling with devotees and offers all necessary items for worship.
Gauri Shankar Mandir is located in Central Delhi, Delhi.
