Fort
Ginnorgarh
Ginnorgarh is an ancient fort located in the Ratapani Tiger Reserve in Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh, situated on a rocky hill rising about 700 meters above sea level. It features a fortified enclosure with remnants of palaces, gatehouses, and water cisterns, surrounded by natural water bodies. The fort became prominent under the Gond rulers, especially under the powerful warlord Nizam Shah, who likely constructed much of the palace.
After his death, his widow Rani Kamlapati and her son took refuge in the fort, and later, Dost Muhammad Khan took over the fort from Bhopal. The fort showcases remarkable palace architecture similar to the Kharbuja Mahal at Dhar fort and is historically linked to the rise of Bhopal state.
Despite being a protected monument, Ginnorgarh’s structures are in a state of decay and suffer from vandalism, yet it remains an important heritage site with picturesque views overlooking the surrounding forests.
