Global Vipassana Pagoda
The Global Vipassana Pagoda is a remarkable meditation hall located near Gorai, in the north-western part of Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was inaugurated on February 8, 2009, by the then President of India, Pratibha Patil.
The pagoda was built as a monument of peace and harmony, and it serves as a tribute to Sayagyi U Ba Khin, a Vipassana teacher from Myanmar.
The pagoda's design is inspired by the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar, and it features the world's largest stone dome built without any supporting pillars. The dome is approximately 29 meters high, and the entire structure stands at 99.06 meters.
The pagoda can accommodate around 8,000 meditators at a time, making it the largest meditation hall in the world.
