Gokaran Nath Mandir, also known as Gola Gokaran Nath Temple, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Gola Gokaran Nath, Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh.
The temple is popularly known as Chhoti Kashi, as it holds immense religious significance and attracts lakhs of devotees, especially during Mahashivratri and the Sawan month. The temple is associated with the legend of Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, who was a devout follower of Lord Shiva.
According to mythology, Ravana requested Lord Shiva to accompany him to Lanka, and Shiva agreed on the condition that he should not be placed on the ground during the journey. However, when Ravana reached Gokaran Nath, he felt the need to relieve himself and handed over the Shiva Linga to a shepherd, who was actually Lord Ganesha in disguise.
The shepherd placed the Shiva Linga on the ground, and when Ravana tried to lift it again, he failed. In frustration, he pressed the Linga with his thumb, leaving an impression that remains visible to this day.
