Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh covers around 1,194 square kilometers and is part of the Nallamala Forest range. It lies between the Mantralamma Kanuma and Nandi Kanuma hill passes, with the Gundlakamma River flowing through the sanctuary.
The sanctuary is known for its diverse dry mixed deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, housing over 350 plant species including teak, shisham, and bamboo, some of which are critically endangered. It supports a rich variety of wildlife such as tigers, panthers, sloth bears, wild dogs, langurs, mouse deer, pangolins, sambar deer, hyenas, and bonnet monkeys.
The sanctuary forms a major part of the Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve’s southern boundary and is notable for its picturesque landscape of plateaus, ridges, valleys, and gorges. The climate is generally hot year-round with most rainfall during the monsoon. October to May is the best time to visit for wildlife safaris and bird watching.
