Haleswar Temple
Haleswar Temple, located near Tezpur in Sonitpur district, Assam, is an ancient Hindu temple with significant historical and spiritual importance. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to have originated when a farmer, known locally as Halowa, discovered a Shiva Linga while plowing his fields.
This discovery inspired the temple's name, Haleswar, derived from Halowa.
The temple was initially built to enshrine the Linga and was later reconstructed in 1705 A.D. by King Rudra Singha of the Ahom dynasty. The temple is unique in its status as a place of worship for both Vaishnavites and Shaivites. The architecture of the temple reflects the Nilachal style, and it continues to be a revered place of worship and a reminder of the region's rich cultural heritage.
