Horsley Hills

Horsley Hills is a scenic hill station located in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, about 9 miles from Madanapalle town, and is part of the Eastern Ghats. It stands at an elevation of approximately 1,290 meters (4,230 feet) and is known for its cool, pleasant climate that contrasts with the surrounding dry and hot areas.

The hills are rich in vegetation, home to dense forests, and a variety of bird species. Horsley Hills is often referred to as the "Ooty of Andhra Pradesh" because of its natural beauty and temperate weather. The area features notable landmarks such as the largest Banyan tree, an ancient Eucalyptus tree, and attractions like Gangotri Lake, viewpoints, a mini zoo, and sites for adventure sports like rock climbing and rappelling.

Historically, the place was named after W.D. Horsley, a British collector who built a residence there in the 1870s. The local legend associates the original name, Yenugu Mallama Konda, with a kind woman named Mallamma who was cared for by elephants and revered as a healing goddess.

Horsley Hills is well connected by road and is a favored destination for tourists seeking nature, tranquility, and outdoor activities throughout the year, with the best visiting season being winter months when temperatures range from about 10°C to 22°C.
