Jadhav Sagar
Jadhav Sagar is one of the oldest water bodies in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. Constructed between 1915 and 1932 by the Scindia's Chhatri Trust, the lake originally covered over 50 hectares with a maximum depth of 15 feet.
It was built to supply water to the fountains, kunds, and gardens of the Chhatri area. The lake also served as a recreational spot for boating until 1932.
However, over the years, Jadhav Sagar has faced significant environmental challenges. Pollution from untreated industrial effluents and sewage, encroachment, and waste dumping have led to a deterioration in water quality. The lake is now covered with invasive water hyacinth, which blocks sunlight and reduces oxygen levels, threatening the biodiversity of the lake.
