Jalalgarh Fort
Jalalgarh Fort is an over 300-year-old ruined fort located about 20 kilometers north of Purnia in Bihar. It was built in the early 17th century, believed to be commissioned by Saif Khan, the Faujdar of Purnia, or by Syed Mohammad Jalaluddin Khan, the first ruler of Khagaria, whose name the fort likely bears.
Strategically positioned near the Kosi River, the fort served as a military barracks and defense against invasions from neighboring areas like Nepal. It once housed 15 to 20 thousand soldiers and had high walls, strong gates, and several chambers, but today it lies mostly in ruins, with remnants of its walls and gates still visible.
The fort held great significance for regional security and control during its time, but now faces neglect and deterioration despite its historical importance.
