Kamala Nehru Zoological Park, also known as Kankaria Zoo, is a well-known zoological garden situated on the banks of Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Spanning 117 acres, the zoo features over 450 animals, 2000 birds, and 140 reptiles including rare and endangered species such as white tigers, elephants, Nicobar pigeons, white blackbucks, and star tortoises.
Founded in 1951 by renowned veterinarian Reuben David and operated by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, it was awarded Best Zoo in India in 1974. The zoo focuses on conservation and captive breeding of threatened species and provides educational tours, making it popular among families and schoolchildren. It is wheelchair accessible, attracts more than 20 lakh visitors annually, and is complemented by nearby attractions such as the Butterfly Park and a Natural History Museum.
Operating hours are 9 am to 6 pm (March to October) and 9 am to 5:30 pm (November to February), and entry fees are affordable with free entry for children up to 3 years.
